MISSION STATEMENT FOR PERFORMERS WITH DISABILITIES
The mission of the Tri-Union Performers with Disabilities Committee shall be to serve as the means to enhance the status and promote the advancement of performers with disabilities; nurture members knowledge and skills; improve members professional careers through the sharing and dispersing of information; promote the profession as a whole; further the understanding of the profession and foster understanding and respect for the disabled performers within; develop and improve working standards and assist in the continuing development of ethical standards for practitioners in the industry.
As the nation’s largest minority cannot remain invisible in the entertainment and news media, the mission and goals of this campaign becomes one of basic, civil and human rights; no different than what any other group has fought for in the past or continues to fight for today.
DISABILITY RIGHTS ARE EQUAL RIGHTS!
People with disabilities will finally see themselves truly integrated on the stage and screen. They will see themselves report the news of interest to the general community at large, as well as the disability community. They will no longer fight for access into inaccessible interviews, auditions or work sites. Most importantly, children will grow up seeing themselves and know they are not alone...or different. People with disabilities of all ages will finally become part of the American Scene in the media.
With the endorsement of the governing bodies of all three national unions, the I AM PWD Campaign and its growing network of union member activists and partners will focus on several areas throughout the duration of the campaign:
